New In: Stone, Clay, and a Little Electronics

Ten new pieces have just gone up. Most of them are made or finished by hand — marble cut into a seated figure, clay pinched and saggar-fired, a sphere of travertine hollowed out and drilled. Two of them have circuits inside and still look like the rest.

From £8 to £120. Because the stone and the glazes are natural, no two pieces come out quite the same — what you see in the photographs is the kind of variation to expect, not a defect.

Candlelight and scent

Four pieces that all deal with a flame or a scent, and all of them are cut or thrown by hand.

Quietly electronic

Two objects that look like everything else here until you notice they do something.

The two with circuits

The light sensor sits in a plant pot and measures how much light that spot actually gets, in lux — useful when you are guessing whether a corner is bright enough for a particular plant. Its readings can be pulled programmatically, so it can feed a script or an agent rather than just a display. The voice recorder is the opposite kind of object: a ceramic shell, one message, played back by hand.

On the handmade ones

The incense holders are saggar-fired, which is why they come out speckled and slightly rough. The travertine warmer opens into two halves with a heating plate in the base — adjustable temperature and a timer, up to 300°C, for resin or oil. The marble figure has a hexagonal dish on top and is sold as a single piece.
